Previews

Coming Soon:

The hubby is so handy!

We finally finished out "weekend project" today, hooray!

Together, we built our very own wall shelf.

Coming soon I'll post a step by step guide for making your own!

Here's a little somethin-somethin I've started working on last night.

Just trying to spruce up our completely blank dining room.

I'm still not completely happy with it. Once I finish and get it looking just right, you'll see more of it.

Does it look a little too "camo" to you? That's not exactly what I was going for, but yet, that's how it turned out...

Any ideas on how to spruce this baby up?

Any ideas on good dining room decorating tips?

Injured

Yesterday, Ande toppled out of a shopping cart.
I was at the Dollar Store, of all places, with him and baby Charlie.
I turned from looking at picture frames, to see my sweet little boy laying on the floor with tears streaming from his eyes, and blood pouring from his nose.

We made it to the hospital with the help of some really nice people along the way, and it turns out that he is going to be fine.
He just had a knot the size of Texas on the bridge of his nose, and I can only imagine the kind of headache he must have had.
Have you ever seen the episode of Man Vs. Wild were Bear Grylls gets stung by a bee in the face? Well, that is what came to mind when I saw Ande's little injured face.

Through it all, he has been so brave.
He did cry pretty much the whole way to the E.R., but by the time we saw the doctor he was back to his normal self, eating graham crackers and shouting out things like, "YEE PAH" (which simply means, yep).

{Already looking much better here}
What a champ.
So Ande was injured in the face, and I am feeling a bit injured in the ego.
Boy, I really thought I was super-mom there for a little while, but now I see that I was being a little too macho.

Luckily, I know that Heavenly Father loves my little boy and is looking out for him.
He could have come home with a broken nose and a concussion.
I also know that, although it is probably inevitable, I never want to see my little boy in pain like that again.
I know that I love him more than anything and I've learned that loving him is what makes me a good mom, even if I'm not there to catch his fall sometimes.

Ruffled Fabric Pumpkins

What a different and creative way to decorate your home for Halloween and Fall! I love the fabric she uses, and of course, the ruffles!

Fleece Sweater

Wow. This has been a crazy few days. I have some projects that I've been working on for my shop, Curtsay Designs, but progress has slowed. All in the past 2 days, we've experienced a car accident, my husband getting called out of town for work unexpectedly, and a visit to the ER with little Ande. My dad said we need to invest in some helmets. I think he's right.

So, let's wait a few days on my shop updates and show you something that somebody else made instead.

{Fleece Sweater by Craftiness is not optional}

Isn't this adorable? Go check out the site, scroll down to the bottom of the post, and you'll find the pattern she used.

I have some jersey knit fabric laying around...I think I might try something like this for myself!

More on Rosettes

I made these lovely rosette headbands for a Relief Society activity coming up in Cary 2nd ward.
(It's November 4th, please come!)
They are so easy and so cute!
Even if you don't have a little girl to dote on (like me), why not make one for yourself?

If you are in Cary 2nd and are planning to participate, here are some supplies you need to bring:

~scrap fabric
~felt (for the backing)
~any plain headband you have, hair clips, or bobby pins
~needle and thread
~a glue gun, if you have one

That's it!

I know it will be great fun, so bring your friends and bring your daughters that are in Y.W.!

Button Scarf

{The Button Scarf}

No, sadly, this adorable and creative little scarf was not made or designed by me.

I found a tutorial for this scarf over at .

My sister's birthday came around and I thought I'd try out the idea for her. I love the off set buttons that give this scarf a little flare. I also love the ruffles that she uses, but thought my 19 year old sister might not want something sooooo cutesy.

So, with my scrap teal jersey knit fabric, this is what I made:

(Please don't laugh at my horrible button holes...I'm working on it!)

(I'm not a huge fan of these orange buttons. I really wanted to use some bit brown, wood buttons or toggles but my budget only allowed me to use what I could scrounge up at home!)

I am pretty sure I will end up making some more of these for myself and others.

What do you think about this off-set button scarf?

Crochet Quilt and Hat Set

I am a bit of a procrastinator. That is why I spent the last 3 days crocheting like a fiend even though I could have started this project weeks (ok, months) ago.

A co-worker of my mom's is having a baby shower this weekend. My mom asked if I would make her a blanket. She told me this in May or June. And, well....I just started working on it this past Monday.

My hands are now crampy, and the blanket is more of a "play mat" because it is a little smaller than I intended. However, I do still L.O.V.E. the way it turned out!

I crocheted 9 squares in 3 different colors. I whip stitched the blocks together with opposing thread and then made a ruffly border with that same color. I also made a little Teddy Bear beanie with this awesome hempy colored yarn that I love.

(The purple background are my bed sheets...love!)

What do you think?

I am thinking of creating my first crochet patterns soon and thought I might make a pattern for a blanket like this. I just don't know if anybody is interested.

Do I have any crochet savvy readers out there who would like me to make patterns?

Vintage

Circa 1976

(atleast that's what I think it was)

We found this awesome vintage 70's bike at the flea market this weekend. I love the flea market, especially on cool, breezy, sunny Saturday's like this one. I don't know why I love it so much, but as soon as we saw this old beauty I couldn't leave without it! I plan on putting a basket on the front and a seat/wagon type thing for Ande to ride in on the back. (Anyone have one of those they don't want anymore?)

[Oh...and there is a picture of Ande in a tree thrown in there too. I couldn't get my pictures in order today]

Fall Wreath

It may still be 90 degrees outside, but I made my fall wreath anyways.

Here it is in all it's glory:

I think it turned out pretty good. All of the flowers and twisty fabric roses are removable so that I can use them again in the future for something else. I think I am most proud of the fact that I didn't buy a single thing for this wreath. I simply foraged around my craft supplies. A cheap project is the best kind of project don't you think? It makes me feel a lot more accomplished knowing that I was creative enough to make do with what I had. Resourceful.

Ok, now, bring on the cool weather please!

Falling for Flowers

It's crazy to me how fast we switch from summer to fall. It may still be warm outside, but everyone has already switched to "fall mode." A week ago we were trying to get tan by the pool, and today everyone is talking about Halloween and decorating for fall.

I do love fall, though. I love the cool breezes and getting to wear sweaters and jackets again. I also love beautiful colors in the falling leaves. I decided to get into the fall mood with everybody else and try to make a wreath for our door. It's not finished yet, but while in the process, I made these great fabric flower broaches. I used scraps of fabric with the deep browns and reds of the season. Theses flowers are going on my fall wreath, but I made them into broaches so I could reuse them later!

For example, they make a great accessory for a purse:

The technique is simple, and I actually made the same type of flowers for the little Spring Wreath I made for our apartment.

In my opinion, flowers are for every season, not just for spring!

I'll surely let you see how the wreath turns out once it's finished~

I also had some leftover fabric strips from the camera strap I just made this week. I loved the fabric colors so much, I couldn't let it go to waste. I was in a fabric flower kick, so I made some more...

These little flowers are also broaches.

I love the idea of adding accents to purses.
I love purses.
I love flowers.
What do you think?

M.I.A.

You may have noticed that my posts haven't been very plentiful lately. I just can't keep up with this fast paced, always creative and crafty, blog world. I love this blog and have really enjoyed making all of the projects that I post on here. I'm going to keep enjoying it, just at my own pace and pleasure. As much as I love crafting, I don't want it to take over my entire life. However, I hope you'll stick around and enjoy the ride (even if it is a little slower).

So yes, I actually do have a life other than sewing and decoupaging.

In case you need proof, I've been doing a lot of this:

{dancing, laying, swimming, walking...on the beach}

{hanging out with these two little fella's}

And as a little incentive for you to stay tuned:

A Camera Strap Cover
This is nothing new to the craft world, but it is something I've wanted to make for a while now.

It is basically just a long tube/sleeve that slides over the original camera strap. It had to be removable since I doubt my husband would want to go around town with this flowery thing. I like how it turned out...but I am pretty sure I'll do it a little differently next time. I'll let you know when that happens.
My favorite part about it is these little twisty fabric roses. I love them. What else can I make so that I can put some more of these on it?
