Another Must-Have: Vintage 1950's Dress

OH  my...

I HAD to add this to my Must-Have list today!

Robin's Egg Blue with Flocked Cosmo Flowers

And the back is even better than the front!

I'm pretty sure my husband would kill me if I spent the money to buy this dress, so I will just have to dream about it. I love 1950's style SO much! The cut of this dress is so flattering and feminine. I also wish I had a great sewing pattern for a dress like this!

You can find this and other vintage items at De La Belle

Monday Must-Haves: Boots and Scarves

Wearable works of art
I am truly loving these crochet boots from Beautiful Purpose Designs. Pretty much everything in her shop is so intricate and beautiful. What could be better than some warm slipper boots to wear around the house in the winter? You should also check out her "hooded scarf" which is equally as amazing.

Lovingly Handmade
I love the smooth, flowing infinity scarves in this shop, especially this grey one. I love the fabric, the ruffles, and the crochet flower detail. She also has some great winter hats which are stylish and almost vintage.

~With this scarf and those boots, you'll be sure to stay warm and stylish this winter!~

Friday Finds: Stocking Holder

I don't want to spend too much time on the computer today. Mostly because we went shopping at midnight last night and I want to take a nap. So, here is another lovely Christmas decoration from Crap I've Made. This is the perfect project for someone without a mantel to hang stockings on!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

Fabric Flower Bouquet Tutorial & Giveaway

{Hydrangea Bouquet}

Remember how much I love hydrangeas? I am so excited that this light blue fabric flower turned out looking just like a hydrangea!
I've been wondering how these lovely fabric bouquets were made for ages. I think they are just gorgeous and the perfect accessory for a sweater, scarf, or bag. The other day, I just started playing around with some fabric and I finally figured it out. I'm sure there are many ways of going about it, but here's my take on them:

{The Tutorial}

1. Get some felt for the backing, and cut in a circle. You'll also need some scrap fabric. (I used cotton jersey knit because it doesn't fray and has the perfect little curl to it.)

;

2. Take the fabric and fold it up about an inch or two (depending on how big you want your flower).

3. Then fold the fabric in half. You are now going to cut from the bottom right corner that you see above.

4. You will cut a heart shape that will look like the picture above.

5. Unfolded, the heart that you cut out should look somewhat like a flower. Re-fold the piece (folded 2 times). Make sure you DON'T match up the petals perfectly this time. It should look like the picture above.

6. Place your first petal piece on the felt circle.

7. Cut out 3 more pieces in the same way for a total of 4. Lay them all on the felt circle.

8. Now you will sew each piece to the felt circle. I used a contrasting color so you can see better, but I would suggest using the same color thread as petal.

9. You will continue to make petals, layer them around the circle, and sew them on. After the first layer of petals, I suggest folding the petal as before, and then rolling them to make the bouquet fuller.

10. The pictures above and below display the process of sewing on a new layer of rolled petals.

11. Sew on as many layers as you see fit. Once complete, fluff up the petals and your completed flower bouquet should look something like this:

Sew a pin on the back to make for a perfect scarf or sweater broach.

These flowers are so quick and a lot easier than they look. I went ahead and made several.
There are endless ways to wear these lovelies. The cream and brown flower matches my mom's purse perfectly and so I'll be pinning it on for her next time I see her.

Now, for the exciting bit.
I've never done this before, but I think it's time for a little GIVEAWAY.
I will pick 2 winners and they will each receive a fabric flower bouquet of their choice and a 10% off credit to my shop, Curtsay Designs!

Monday Must-Haves

In an attempt to be a little more organized with this blog, I am going to start up some regular posts every Monday and Friday. My Monday posts will highlight some of the fantastic items/shops on my never-ending list of things I want to buy. It will be my "must-have" list. On Friday, I will post about the crafts of other bloggers. I will show off all the projects I star in my Google reader, things I'd love to make, but probably won't ever get around to! These posts will be my "Friday finds." I also want to get back on the ball with posting some tutorials for you. Tomorrow, I have great fabric flower bouquet tutorial planned for ya!

Now, on to my Must- Have list of the week:

These are some things I've put on my Christmas list. I think I've said it before, but I L.O.V.E purses/bags/pouches, etc.

For example, this Daisy Wristlet/Clutch from Gussy Sews...

I just love the colors and fabrics she uses, and of course her signature ruffles.
I also love this Damask Tote/Diaper bag, also from Gussy Sews
.

This Dots and Lace Clutch is from the Pleated Poppy
...

Isn't that lace gorgeous? Both Gussy and the Pleated Poppy have great quality zippy pouches and bags with amazing fabric choices!

Now, these floral beauties are from an Etsy shop called FFFlowers
...

She uses so many beautiful colors with this amazing frayed ribbon. I've looked everywhere for ribbon like this, and can't seem to find any. I've already purchased a couple flowers from her and the quality is fantastic. I definitely plan on buying more to complete my bouquet.

This is a great home decoration idea!

What are you asking for this Christmas?

Friday Finds

At this time of year, there are all sorts of great decorative ideas on the web for the holidays.
I just thought I'd share a couple fun Christmas ideas that I bookmarked this week.

I love this. What a fun way to write to Santa. I think kids would love the freedom to write everything they want for Christmas on their own little section of the board. This would also be helpful for parents in organizing what to get everybody!

If you're looking for a new tradition to start with your family this year, I think these Christmas activity cards are your golden ticket. There is a card for each day of December, leading up to Christmas. Each card has a thought or activity for that day. There are fun things for the kids, but they are also centered in Jesus Christ, helping us to remember the true meaning on the season.

Another "just for fun" beanie

Here is another one of my projects from last week.
Like the slouchy beanie, I made this hat just for kicks.
I'm always making hats to put in my shop, but never making hats for us.
So, this hat is for my sweet little Ande.
I personalized it...

with his name,

 and a car,  his favorite.

Now on to business.
My 3rd wedding anniversary is tomorrow, hooray!
My husband has the hardest time figuring out presents for me.
He is very practical and just can't comprehend the idea of buying me something "frivolous."
So, to surpass all the fuss of gift buying, we decided to make each other something this year.
I finally figured out what I'm going to do and now I only have the rest of today to get it ready!

I'm interested to see what kind of creative gifts you've come up with in the past.
Boys are always the hardest to buy for, so comment with your favorite anniversary, birthday, or Christmas gift ideas!

We love Saturdays

I don't really have too much to say about it.
I just really love hanging out with my boys.
So just sit back and enjoy the pictures!

The Slouchy Beanie

{The Slouchy Beanie}
This is just a little hat I made for fun. I'm actually going to send it out to my sister in a little Thanksgiving package I put together for her. She's out at BYU and not coming home for Thanksgiving. I guess I could have waited until Christmas to give this to her, but we drew names this year and I don't have her. So, she gets a little early surprise this year!

I've been wanting to make her something for a while now. Its always pretty cold out there, but the cutesy cloche hats I usually make aren't so much her style.

I think this slouchy beanie is a little bit more bohemian which is totally my sister.

The little rosette is a clip that I added for some extra bling. It's removable because I'm still not sure if I even like it added on there or not.

The problem with this clip is that I got a little hot glue on the ribbon as you can see above. Maybe I can black it out with a marker.

I might just have to make one for myself now.

Happy Thanksgiving Laur!
