crochet love {anthro inspired braided headband}

I am so excited to share with you this easy little crochet headband pattern that I created, but first let me tell you a little bit about how I came up with it!

It all started when I found this fun youtube channel, iKnits. She has some great knitting and crochet tutorials! I love a good crochet/knitting video, because that is how I learned how to crochet about 4 years ago. I am now trying to learn how to knit and for my first real project, I decided to use her video on an anthro inspired plaited head wrap. Her directions make it so easy to make. I first made one exactly as she shows it for my sister to wear around campus in Utah where it is disgustingly cold. I loved it so much that I almost kept it for myself. I decided to make another one, but this time a little bit thinner, to be more of a headband than an ear warmer type thing. And this is how it turned out...

I really, really like it, and have been wearing it quite a bit! It kind of makes me feel like Pocahontas...

Then I continued my braided headband craze and decided that maybe people who don't know how to knit would want to make one too! So, I worked up a crochet version of the braided head band!

Here's what I did:

Using worsted weight yarn and a size I crochet hook.
1. Ch until it measures 70 inches.
(in the iKnits video, she suggests 72 inches, but 70 inches fit me better!)
2. Sc into 2nd ch from hook. Sc in each remaining ch across.
3. Ch1, turn. Sc in each remaining st across.
4. Repeat step 3 for 3 more rows (total of 5 rows).
*Note: work as many or as little rows as you want to make it as thick or thin as you want!
5. Fasten off. Leave a 5 inch, or so, tail for later.

To complete the braiding process of the headband, please refer to the iKnits video! Once you have your long 70 inch strip, the steps for creating the headband are exactly the same, whether crochet or knit. Start the video at 14:05 min.

This was so fast for me to make, which I love. Because, let's be honest, knitting takes f.o.r.e.v.e.r! I also love the versatility in this style headband, that you can make it as wide or as thin as you want!

Please feel free to share your own versions of this crochet braided headband with me on Ravelry! I would love to see them!
