crochet love {ascot neck scarf}

About this time last year, I wrote up a pattern for what I called the handkerchief scarf. I was never really satisfied with the end product, so I finally got around to modifying it a little bit. I wanted it to be a little thicker in both the neck section and in the ties. And then, I added a fun little flower button for show!

Here's what I did:

With worsted weight yarn and a size I crochet hook.

*Directions for Dc Dec (double crochet decrease) from steps 9-11: yarn over, place hook through stitch, yarn over, pull through stitch, yarn over, pull through first 2 loops on hook ONLY, yarn over, place hook through next stitch, yarn over, pull through stitch, yarn over, pull through first 2 loops on hook, yarn over, pull through last 3 loops on hook.

Make 2:
1. Ch 4. Sl st in first ch to form a loop.
2. Ch 2. Work 3 more dc into loop.
3. Ch 2. Turn. 1 dc in same st. 1 dc in next 2 sts. 2 dc in last st.
3. Ch 2. Turn. 1 dc in same st. 1 dc in next 4 sts. 2 dc in last st.
4. Ch 2. Turn. 1 dc in same st. 1 dc in next 6 sts. 2 dc in last st.
5. Ch 2. Turn. 1 dc in same st. 1 dc in next 8 sts. 2 dc in last st.
6. Ch 2. Turn. 1 dc in same st. 1 dc in next 10 sts. 2 dc in last st.

8. Repeat step 7 two times.

16. Ch 2. Turn. 1 dc in same st. 1 dc in next 10 sts. 2 dc in last st.
17. Ch 2. Turn. 1 dc in same st. 1 dc in next 12 sts. 2 dc in last st.
18. Ch 2. Turn. 1 dc in same st. 1 dc in next 14 sts. 2 dc in last st.
19. Ch 2. Turn. 1 dc in same st. 1 dc in next 16 sts. 2 dc in last st.
20. Ch 2. Turn. 1 dc in same st. 1 dc in next 18 sts. 2 dc in last st.
21. Ch 2. Turn. 1 dc in next 21 sts.
22. Repeat step 21 eight times.
23. Fasten off. Leave long tail on one of your two pieces.
24. With long tail, sew two pieces together. Fasten off.
25. Sc as evenly as you can around entire scarf. Fasten off.
26. Take one tail piece and weave through the 13th row of dc on the other tail.
27. Optional: sew decorative button where the two tails cross.

This scarf is cute and warm, without being too bulky. I rather like it! I think it would also look really cute paired with a collared shirt. What do you think?
