Make your own Obi Fabric Belt!

I always love a good belt, but especially during pregnancy!

By making your own obi fabric belt, you can easily spice up your belt collection, and your wardrobe.

All you need is a piece of fabric that is at least 80 inches long, and 6 inches wide.

You can definitely make your belt longer and wider if you want to.

I wouldn't recommend going any shorter than 80 inches, because you will have less options when tying.

Going wider will give you more of a traditional, Japanese obi sash.

You can use any type of fabric.

This time, I used a soft, silk fabric because I love the way it feels and looks.

A cotton fabric will give you a more sturdy belt, and a lace would give it a feminine flair.

1. Fold your fabric in half the long way, with right sides together.

2. Sew, or serge, along the long edge.

3. Turn right side out.

4. Fold your short edges under so that no raw edges show, and sew. This can be done by hand (which looks better), or with the sewing machine.

5. Iron

There are so many fun ways to tie your obi fabric belt,

and like I said, the options depend on the length and width of your sash.

My favorite, is this twisted rose:

All you do is...

1. Wrap belt around your waist, with the two ends slightly at your side.

2. Twist the ends around each other, keeping it tight at your waist. Leave an inch or so of your ends un-twisted.

3. The twist will allow the fabric to twirl up around itself. Guide it as it twirls into a circle, wrapping the layers around.

4. Tuck your ends up through the middle of the twisted rose, but do not pull it all the way through. Your ends should still be poking out from the back side.

You could also try an easy big bow:

This style would look especially nice with a more sturdy fabric.
